Every situation, circumstance and condition changes in an instant, yet we as women speakers tend to fret in the moment that it occurs and get ourselves all twisted up about what’s really happening now.

In 1987, Cosmo (played by Vincent Gardenia) in the popular movie, Moonstruck, doubts the validity of his daughter’s engagement and asks to see her ring. When she shows him a mere pinkie ring her fiancé has given her instead of a proper engagement ring, he
questions this arrangement even more. Loretta Castorini (Cher) said it best when she turned to her father to respond and shouted,
“Everything is temporary!”

Isn’t this what we forget to tell ourselves during those situations that frustrate, disappoint and confuse us? Or when we find ourselves in different circumstances than the outcomes we expected?

We as human beings and speakers tend to lose ourselves emotionally in moments when what we thought was going to happen turns out not to be the end result. We dwell on what has occurred.

Keep in mind: What you think about you bring about.

Focus your thoughts on what you want instead of what has transpired. After all, whatever is done is done. It’s over. You can’t change it. You can’t start over before it happened.

What you can do is simply break the spell of reliving what you have experienced over and over again by reminding yourself that everything IS temporary.

By understanding this, you release the ruts you may find yourself in during moments of your life and speaking career and run in the direction of your dreams more readily.

The transitions you make will be smoother because you’ll be more apt to follow the flow of what you want to experience instead of getting mired in and making unpleasant situations and circumstances last longer than they have to.

Release yourself and remember: Everything is TEMPORARY!

You can do it!

Tell me about a situation where it changed so quickly because you didn’t think that much about it. I’d love hear how you have found that everything really is temporary in your own career.
