By Kim Duke, International Sales Expert
I’m very honored to have been asked to be on the WSA Council. I’m throwing my stiletto in the ring as I want to elevate the role of women in the speaking community. Currently there are a small fraction of female speakers compared to men. Also, quite frankly, women speakers tend to under-value and under-charge and I want to help them STOP. THAT. NOW. When I started in the speaking industry in 2001 there were very few female role models and mentors available. I was in mastermind programs and had mentors that were men only. I’m so thankful for these wonderful men and the support they gave to me. However, I’m very interested in helping all levels of women speakers grow to the next exciting level that they so passionately want to achieve. I’m also thrilled to be learning from all of you as well!

hi Kim,
At the CAPS – Canadian Association of Professional Speakers – annual convention (in Toronto this year), the split is about 50-50, if not more women than men.
I know at our Toronto Chapter meetings, there isn’t much of an imbalance any more.

BUT I totally agree, we do undervalue and undercharge for our knowledge and wisdom.
